American (6 spots!)

Updated: Mar 9, 2021

1. 30 Burgers - Rutherford, NJ

~Please request Halal. They have separate grills for halal meat. Halal options might vary depending on which chain location you go to~

Parking: Street parking

Setting: Takeout and indoor seating

Order: El Paso, Six alarm burger, buffalo wings, masala fries, chicken tikka kati roll, and banana milkshake (Total $35)

The burgers were very juicy and had a good blend of spice and flavors. I only tried the two, but I'm sure the other 28 burgers are just as good. It's hard to find a place that has good-tasting buffalo wings, but 30 Burgers does it right. The fries were seasoned with chaat masala, which was unique in comparison to masala fries at other restaurants. The flavor can get overwhelming if you're not used to it but it was a pleasant surprise for me. The kati roll was a good mix of chicken tikka and mint. The banana milkshake tasted like a banana pudding drink, which I preferred over the usually overly sugary banana milkshakes at other restaurants. Overall, definitely a great place to check out! Give them some love as they just recently opened up ❤

2. Zac's Burgers - West Windsor, NJ

Parking: Restaurant is located in a parking lot

Setting: Takeout and indoor seating

Order: Big Zac, cookies and cream milkshake, fries (Total $14)

The burger meat was good but the bacon was leathery from being a bit overcooked. It was a bit smaller than I was expecting but still a good burger. The cookies and cream milkshake was a solid choice, dipping the fries in the milkshake was heavenly 🤤 The fries by themselves weren't that good, they were a little overcooked making them too crispy. 🍔

3. BurgerIM - Clifton, NJ

~Chain restaurant, please check to see if the specific chain location serves halal meat beforehand~

Parking: Restaurant has limited parking in lot, street parking

Setting: Takeout and indoor seating

Order: Spanish Beef Combo with home fries and a drink (Total $11)

Party box of 16 mixed burgers (Total $48)

The burger was pretty good. It's juicy but not tender. The jalapenos give an unexpected kick to it. The home fries taste like something in between shoe string fries and the crinkle-cut ones. Staff was really friendly!

It ain't a party without BurgerIM's party boxes lol the burgers are a bit bigger than sliders so the party box is perfect for a group of 8. My favorite is the crispy chicken burger but they also have beef and lamb. They also have a family box that comes with 8 burgers, 8 wings, fries and onion rings. They have several other halal locations on Elmwood Park, Newark, Parsippany, and others.

4. Park Wayne Diner - Wayne, NJ

~Restaurant does not serve zabihah halal meat~

Parking: Parking lot in front of diner

Setting: Sit in and takeout

Order: Titan Waffle, florentine omelette, black and white milkshake (Total $25)

This diner's servings are huge which is probably why they're priced like this. I feel like the titan waffle would've tasted a bit better without the Greek yogurt but even with it, it was still pretty good. The Florentine omelet was a solid choice with spinach and mozzarella instead of the feta on the menu. The black and white milkshake was okay, it didn't taste all that great but it didn't taste bad either.

5. Wayback Burgers - Secaucus, NJ

~This restaurant is a chain. Not all Wayback Burger restaurants are halal but this one is~

Parking: Restaurant is in parking lot

Setting: Sit in and takeout

Order: Double Bacon Burger, Fries, Cookies n' Cream Milkshake ($15ish)

Irish Nachos, Build your own Chicken Sandwich, and Caramel Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milkshake (Total $17)

The burger was very juicy and definitely one of the best burgers I've had. The fries could've had a little bit more seasoning. But their milkshakes are amaaaazing. You can't go wrong with any of the flavors!

I found my way back to Wayback Burgers and it was just as good as the last time. Their nachos are amazing! Very flavorful and more than enough to share with friends. The chicken sandwich was okay, nothing out of the ordinary. But the milkshake was like cereal in ice-cream form. By far, one of the best milkshakes I've had. Hopefully, they keep it on the menu because right now it's just a featured menu item for a limited time.

6. Popeyes - East Brunswick, NJ

~This restaurant is a chain. This location, so far, is the only one in New Jersey doing this. You can request halal, but only the fried chicken is halal. They will prepare it separately~

Parking: Restaurant is in parking lot

Setting: Sit in and takeout

Order: 9 pc mixed chicken, large cajun fries, two soft drinks (Total $25)

I don't see the hype for Popeyes chicken. I'm not saying it tastes bad, but it doesn't really taste all that unique. You know what fried chicken is amazing tho but prob not easily accessible? The KFC chicken I had in Saudi Arabia. It was the BEST. Lol back to Popeyes though. Their fries were pretty good cuz you can't really go wrong with Cajun fries. The assortment of sauces helped add some more unique flavors to the chicken.

7. Phat Platters - Paramus, NJ (Permanently closed)

Parking: Parking available in front (located right off highway)

Setting: Takeout and indoor seating

Order: 10pc Honey Sriracha wings, Chicken zinger combo, Phat burger (Total $28)

Amazing family-run restaurant to grab a quick bite. The wings were like the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The chicken zinger was a solid crispy chicken sandwich. The phat burger was very juicy (ended up getting some on my pants and phone 😅😅) and delicious. The fries were well seasoned but just wish they were a bit crispy-er. Overall, a great place to check out!
