Thai (6 spots!)

1. Aroy D Thai - Verona, NJ

~Restaurant does not serve halal meat~

Parking: Street parking

Setting: Eat in and takeout

Order: Drunken noodles with shrimp (Total $15)

This restaurant also has a rolled ice-cream section attached to it called Icecream Thai'm (lol ice-cream time, get it?). The taste of the drunken noodles was different than other Thai places because the base of the sauce was similar to Tom Yum soup which has a tomato-like taste to it. Although I didn't like how it tasted with the noodles, the sauce went very well with the assorted vegetables, especially the broccoli. The restaurant is only a block or two away from a beautiful park, Verona Park, with a playground, lake, and paddleboats.

2. Halal Thai - Montclair, NJ

Parking: Metered street parking (be careful not to park in residential permit parking areas)

Setting: Eat in and takeout

Order: Drunken noodles with chicken, basil Thai fried rice, fried chicken dumplings, Thai iced tea (Total $46)

In an effort to make the food healthy, everything was pretty hard to eat. The drunken noodles barely had any taste. The basil Thai fried rice tasted like it didn't have any basil in it. It also had a weird odor to it. It was so bad that I had to recook it when I got home. The chicken dumplings weren't that bad. They kind of tasted like bland samosas. The Thai iced tea was a bit sweeter than other places, but overall, it was okay.

3. Thep Thai - Midtown Manhattan, NY

~Restaurant does not serve halal meat~

Parking: Metered street parking (be careful not to park in residential permit parking areas)

Setting: Eat in and takeout

Order: Pineapple Fried Rice, Drunken Noodles, Steamed Shrimp Dumplings, Thai Iced Tea and Coffee (Total $50)

Presentation alone, this place would've been 10 out of 10, but in taste it wasn't so good. The drunken noodles was the only thing that tasted good but I think other people would've found it to be a bit too spicy. The other dishes lacked the genuine flavor that other Thai places typically have.

4. DD Thai - Rochelle Park, NJ

~Restaurant does not serve halal meat~

Parking: Street parking

Setting: Eat in and takeout

Order: Drunken Noodles w/ Shrimp, Pineapple Fried Rice w/ Shrimp, Coconut Shrimp, Thai Iced Tea ($50)

The coconut on the shrimp tasted very fresh and authentic. The pineapple fried rice was okay but I personally wouldn't get it again. It's worth a try if you've never tasted the dish before. The drunken noodles was my favorite dish to try. The flavor tastes likes its cooked into the noodles. And last but definitely not least, you can't go to a thai restaurant without getting thai iced tea/thai iced coffee (both are pretty good).

5. Kai Yang - Bloomfield, NJ

~Restaurant does not serve halal meat~

Parking: Metered street parking

Setting: Eat in and takeout

Order: Shrimp Thai Fried Rice and Pad Kee Mao/Drunken Noodles (Total $40)

Although the food took a bit of time to come out, it was really good. I wouldn't say it's my favorite Thai place but the tastes meet your expectations. If you've never tried Thai food before, the drunken noodles are a savory flat noodle dish that is filled with Thai flavor. The rice's flavor depends on the spice level you choose. If you choose too mildly, it might taste plain, but if you choose too spicy,

6. Up Thai - Morris Plains, NJ

~Restaurant does not serve halal meat~

Parking: Restaurant is in a parking lot

Setting: Eat in and takeout

Order: Drunken noodles and Thai iced tea (Total $15)

Out of all the Thai restaurants I've been to, this is my favorite. It has a cute, cozy vibe to it. The noodles were very savory and at the perfect level of spice. The Thai iced tea had a good balance between milk and tea. And the service was amazing! This place is definitely worth giving a try!
